The latest paranoid presidential decree effectively shuts down political pluralism in Ukraine, as the increasingly paranoid US-backed president has officially deemed any ethnic Russian political or media activity in Ukraine as suspicious, claiming that ‘the activities of those politicians aimed at division or collusion will not succeed, but will receive a harsh response.’
KIEV – According to a statement published by the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a new decree has been signed which combines all national TV channels into one platform, citing the importance of a “unified information policy” under a new permanent state of martial law.
The move by Zelensky makes any Ukrainian privately owned media channels illegal, although the announcement, published on his presidential website, does not specify how quickly the new authoritarian measures will come into force.
According to Reuters, the media mogul and president of Ukraine has ordered the forced merger of all national media, to be under the command and control of the regime going forward.
The controversial move comes after Zelensky outlawed no less than 11 political opposition parties — one holding as many as 44 seats in the Rada, Ukraine’s Parliament — claiming that nearly every party other than his own (Servant of the People, named after his popular TV show) are to be regarded as somehow “in collusion with the Russians,” and therefore should be made illegal throughout Ukraine.
“The activities of those politicians aimed at division or collusion will not succeed, but will receive a harsh response,” said Zelensky via Zoom call to his beleaguered populace, according to the UK Daily Mail.
Based on recent media reports, it appears that these recent moves to close down political activity are likely being directed by the US State Department and Joe Biden’s White House, both of whom have been advising and directing Zelensky every step of the way since the current crisis began, and even long before that, as it’s no secret how Washington had seized control of the Ukrainian government in February 2014. Presumably, this also includes an order by Washington for Zelensky to impose martial law.
“We’re introducing martial law on the whole territory of our country,” said Zelenskyy, to CNN. “A minute ago I had a conversation with President Biden. The US have already started uniting international support.”
Under the new authoritarian decree, any press activity in Ukraine will only be allowed to operate under his new media umbrella called United News, which can also be downloaded by an app.
Even before hostilities began, Zelensky had shut down numerous ‘pro-Russian’ TV stations in Ukraine. Presumably, this was also under the direction of Washington.
“Three pro-Russian TV channels have gone off the air in Kyiv after pro-Western President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a Ukrainian security council decree imposing sanctions for five years on eight media and TV companies,” reported German state-controlled media DW.
Oddly, Zelensky did not indicate when his full lustration of the country’s political and media organizations will end.
Thus far, there has been no reaction or comment about Zelensky’s suspension of democratic institutions by either the European Union or NATO.
